Guidance & Counseling Program

Chaminade’s experienced and committed Counseling staff has created and continues to manage a thorough and comprehensive guidance program which is outlined and explained on Chaminade’s internal website. All members of the Chaminade family have access to this information.

As a student progresses through his years at Chaminade he is mentored by several different individuals. During Middle School years, his assigned Counselor will meet regularly with him to help in the adjustment process and any academic and social issues that may arise. Also, within our House System each student will be influenced every day by his faculty Mentor Group Leader as well as an upperclassman Student Leader.
Once in High School, each student will have a House Counselor who will meet with him and follow his academic and social progress for four years. This House Counselor is the 'point of contact' for parents and faculty for anything relating to the student’s well being.  In addition, each high school student will have the same faculty House Mentor Group Leader and House Dean to help him in any way they can. During a student’s Junior and Senior years he is also assigned a College Counselor who will coordinate his College Selection Process.

Other aspects of Chaminade’s Counseling Program include:
  1. Coordinate parent and student programs on various topics such as substance abuse, bullying, study skills, teenage depression/suicide and other timely issues.
  2. Recommend referrals if off campus professional assistance is appropriate.
  3. Assist with course scheduling.
  4. Work with Chaminade’s Learning Consultant in providing appropriate accommodations for student’s with learning differences.

Mission Statement

By following our Blessed Mother’s example, the Guidance and Counseling Department members strive to nurture each student’s sense of Christian responsibility to himself, his family, and his community. Counselors are committed to assisting Chaminade’s young men develop necessary life skills which bring Christian values into their culture. By fostering the qualities of self-discipline, decision making, empathy, and resilience, we help our counselees achieve a sense of competence and well-being.

Department Goals

  • To develop psychologically sound individuals by providing resources and guidance education
  • To promote the competence and well-being of our students by providing a variety of educational opportunities to families, administration, and faculty
  • To identify and address what is necessary for each student to find his academic, social, personal and spiritual strengths to be successful today, in college and beyond
  • To incorporating the Marianist Characteristics in all aspects of counseling activities in order to cultivate in our students a sense of responsibility to themselves, their family and community
