Meyer House

Rev. Leo Meyer was the first Marianist priest in the United States, arriving from Switzerland in 1849. Under his leadership the Marianists settled in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in Ohio and founded St. Mary’s Institute, which later became the University of Dayton. Rev. Meyer died on January 30, 1868, in Courtefontaine, France, at the age of 68.
The House Crest
Red is the official Chaminade school color and navy blue is the Meyer House color. The book represents academics. The shoe represents athletics. The mask stands for drama and the arts. Mary represents the Blessed Mother Mary. The symbol of the cross with the M in the middle stands for our Marianist and Christian faith. The Latin phrase Ad Jesum Per Mariam means “To Jesus through Mary".
